Rose wine for Friday Happy Hour. A strawberry and orange slice...is nice.  Happy Friday Happy Hour. After noodling around with my Rosalie rewrite stuff today (I am having so much trouble figuring out exactly what kind of story I'm writing. Is it redemption? Maturation? Eek!), I went for a walk in the nearby park and am now out on the balcony with this nice, refreshing rosé. I added the strawberry on the rim and a blood orange slice floating on top. This adds maybe a teeny bit of nuanced flavor, but mostly it is what I call…

Editing, red pen in hand, at my little desk. Photo by Danielle Burbank Happy Friday Happy Hour, Peeps. How has your week been? I’ve been okay, focusing on two things: rewriting LOVE & EAST MERCY and getting back into a healthy eating and exercise routine. This means tracking my calories on MyFitnessPal and pushing myself to add High Intensity Interval Training to my regular walking schedule. And not drinking. Still. I know. Eyeroll. The thing is, my body has been quick to respond to the more intense exercise, not visibly, but internally. I feel stronger already after just…

Makings for a Not-Quite Tequila Margarita. Lemon drop mix. Passion fruit sparkling water. Lime juice. PHOTO BY: Shelley Burbank Happy Friday Happy Hour, Peeps!Have you wanted to change a bad habit but at that same time maintain a pleasurable ritual? This is me right now with my love-affair with the cocktail. I so enjoy an end of the day libation, the sense of sinking into a mellow, relaxing mood at the end of the day, maybe having a few nibbles, and listening to some jazz. I like cocktail glasses, cocktail napkins, and cocktail garnishes. On occasion I love…

Vintage apron classing up my crazy cleaning and cooking frenzy today.  Happy Friday Happy Hour, peeps!Even though my intention is to also write Mindful Monday and Writing Wednesday posts on this blog, I seem only to be motivated lately to compose Friday Happy Hours. Trying NOT to read too much into that. Something shifted for me this week; suddenly I’m feeling a bit more energy after months of slogging through my tasks (thank you for the depressive mood, Covid-19, you monstrous B*%$#!). For some strange reason, today I woke up in the mood to clean. I mean,…

🍸Friday Happy Hour, April 17, 2020

I've started sketching humorous little comics in this weird, isolating period of pandemic. --SRB I have run out of vodka. Not only that, I’ve run out of olives.  Now, there are many things about this pandemic we are in that are more important than my inability to make myself a martini at the end of the day, but I’m mourning the loss just the same. Just as you are most likely mourning the loss of something seemingly small, but none-the-less important, to your idea of “the good life.”  (If you’ve lost a person to this pandemic,…

🍸 Friday Happy Hour, January 31, 2020

Well, we made it to Friday, peeps, so welcome to my first A GOOD LIFE IN CRAZY TIMES Friday Happy Hour! Whoo-hoo!  In honor of happy hour, I will tell you a brief story about my introduction to the most delicious and potentially the most habit-forming cocktail. In the spring of 2018, I worked for an academic publishing company and was invited to work the company’s booth at the annual American Educational Research Association (AERA) conference in New York City. Up until this time, I labored under the impression that education researchers, PhDs, university professors, etc.…
