Thursday
Not much writing-wise today as I spent my time down a rabbit hole of peel-and-stick back-splash tiles and decals for when we finally find a place to call home on this island.
Then we had lunch at a Jamaican place. Scrumptious. I had a grilled vegetable sandwich and sweet potato fries and C. went for the traditional jerk ribs and chicken with red rice and rice and beans. I’m enjoying the choices of juices in these restaurants and am not missing my cocktails at all.
After lunch we met with our realtor and looked at a couple of places, but I think we are back to going with one of the places we looked at on day one. It’s a little funky and dated, but there’s good walkability, a pool, and beach access. I’m only hoping our guy doesn’t come back to tell us it’s no longer available. (One I had my heart on had already been taken so now I’m scared.)
I took this photo of a beautiful wall mural. The oblong shape is a Guam symbol also found on the flag. Here it’s filled with two tropical birds amidst foliage. According to Wikipedia, the almond shape represents the slingshot stones used by the native Chamorro people long ago.
There is so much history to learn here. I’m looking forward to getting settled so I can have a routine for exercise, reading, writing, and research.
Oh, and today I spotted the Guam Public Library! Now I know where it is.
Thank you for sharing. What an exciting experience! I look forward to reading more about your adventures while settling and acclimating into a new culture and your new home.
Hi Kathryn! Thank YOU for stopping in and reading. It’s quite an adventure for sure.
All awesome news. I hope you get the perfect home 🙂
Thanks, Andrea. We just offered on one. Fingers crossed!
It’s lovely being privy to your adventures. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for reading. I’m enjoying this format again. Stay warm!!!!
It’s so good to read your thoughts in your daily journal. It will make a great diary of your time in Guam. Keep doing it, please!
I’m going to! As you point out, it’s content I OWN and have easy access to. If I want to do something with it later, I can, without having to go through a tech company. Plus I’m really more of a long-form person. It works for me as long as I’m not having all these expectation about readership, etc. Thanks, Debbie!
